We need a great turnout. ALL Boy Scout Leaders as well as ALL SCOUTS are invited to attend! The ?Medieval Southwest? is an exhibit at the Southwest Collection Library. This is a building that is basically four blocks west of St. John?s Methodist Church (on 15th St), where you all normally meet. There is a map at on the exhibit Web site at http://www.swco.ttu.edu/medieval (click the word ?information? on the front page). If you have your leadership meeting at the SWC on October 9, we will provide refreshments and an exhibit tour. Why should scouts be interested in this exhibit? It offers the first ?big city? display of the Coronado artifacts from Blanco Canyon and of TTU excavated materials from San Sab?. Plus there are associated items and lots of information concerning early Spanish Texas. It offers an unparalleled introduction to early Spanish West Texas. It ought to have a number of points of tangency with various rank and merit badge requirements. This is a unique opportunity: except for a Web site ghost and a TV special, this exhibit will disappear after April 4, 2009, and we would love to have people make full use of it. There is free parking available in the R-1 parking lot, which is north of our building. A digital copy of the campus map can be sent to you if you like. Roger ___________________________________________________ Roger, We look forward to showing off the exhibit on the "Medieval Southwest" on Thursday evening October 9 at 7:00. Alas, I have been called out of town on late Thursday, but Bruce Cammack and Lynn Whitfield will give you an excellent introduction to the exhibit. I hate to miss this. Since my two boys became eagle scouts I have not had much contact with scouting and it would have been fun to touch base with the local leaders. Let me reiterate that it is good to avoid the parking lot between the Administration Building and the Student Union-almost all other routine spaces should be OK and normally there is lots of parking in the R1 lot just north. If scout leaders are half as forgetful as I am, that evening you might want to put a sign on the door of St. John's so that people who forget about the relocation of your meeting will be redirected. It's that time of year again - yep, start preparing for Scouting For Food! The Food Bank is very excited to have us participate again this year and hopefully we can bring in more food for them than we ever have! The District Committee's Community Relations team are busy working to get the drive in place and ready to go, but we need your input. We want this drive to be successful for everyone because the scouts have a fantastic time at it and the end result is so worth it - collecting food to help the food bank so someone doesn't go hungry. Did you know that the food we collect for the U Can Share Food Drive supplies food to the food bank through March / April of next year? That is amazing and they are so appreciative! What we need to know from you is: Did your unit have any issues with the area that they covered last year? Please keep in mind that although several units may have an area assigned that is larger than they can collect, that isn't the point. The point is for each unit to do the best they can while letting each scout participate in such a worthy cause. If your unit had issues with the area that they picked up, or something just did not work out, please contact me so we can possibly make an adjustment to better serve your unit. The goal is for every scout in our district to participate. As well, if your unit would like an additional area assigned to them to pick up in addition to what they already cover, please let me know that as well, since we have several parts of the city that are not covered. Many thanks to all those who participated last year and looking forward to everyone's participation this year. Going to be a great year! This is very important to both the district and your unit. The district needs to make sure all of the boys are registered so they are covered by insurance plus honestly - we need the numbers correct. It is important to the unit as the boys will not advance or get Boys Life without being registered. Please all CC's get your rosters turned in this week to the council. You can fax, email, or bring them by the office. We need your rosters, not the Recharter forms from last December please.
