In-Reply-To: Message-ID: <02E9EE66-D2CE-4397-9789-C6BBEBB99345@sbcglobal.net> (Forwarded on behalf of the TTU Museum Education Program.) Hi Alan, We are offering a two-day workshop at the Museum of Texas Tech for Boy Scouts who are interested in working on items for the astronomy belt loop and pin. Attached is a letter describing the program. The workshop will be held on two Saturdays in August, from 10:30am - 12:30pm. We are asking the scouts to make reservations for this program as space is limited. They can call 806-742-2432 to make reservations. Would you be able to help us get the word out about this program? You can use the attached letter, and print copies as needed, or forward to interested boy scouts. We have sent this letter to the head of the local council in Lubbock too. Thanks and we'll keep in touch! Patrice -- Patrice M. The National Guard will soon deploy. A deployment party is in the works for them. Volunteers are needed to help make this party a success. The needs include: cooks, booth operators, setup help, take down help, trash, and more. I realize that the notice is late and that everyone is busy, but if anyone would like to help (as a unit or just individually) they will be welcome. These young heroes (135 of them!) are preparing to leave the South Plains behind, and face a very uncertain future. A "Deployment Party" has been planned to show our support and appreciation to them. I sent an E-Mail earlier talking about it, but didn't have some of the information we needed. Here it is again: The party will be on Saturday, July 26, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, at the Civic Center park. This has changed some from my earlier E-Mail. The organizers of the party need help. They expect several hundred people to attend this event, and want it to be memorable for the Guardsmen. They need volunteers to man the booths, they need volunteers to cook and serve a meal, they need volunteers to help set up and then to help take down. They would like to give each child of each Guardsman a "Heroes Pack" with (among other things) a letter from a child in this area thanking their parent for serving. So they need children to volunteer to write letters. They have other needs as well. I know that the time is short, that the units have already planned their activities for July, and that many of us will be camping that weekend. If your unit can't participate as a unit, please consider participating as a family, or as an individual. Ask your friends from church and your neighborhood for their help also. Contact Brandy Ivey at bivey@lubbockmhmr.org or call her at 239-0159 to find out more about this opportunity. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... In addition, I have placed a copy of the annual planning calendar that gives a summary of these dates onto the Council calendar page at http://southplainscouncil.org/Calendar.htm for your convenience. Note that the downloadable planning calendar generally gives only the date and title of the event or meeting. Further information is available via the web version of the calendar. I have tried to fill in available information on other details, such as location, starting and ending times, cost, early bird deadlines if any, and contact information where this is available by working from the fliers and announcements in the files on the CD distributed at the Roundtable in May, and by talking in person to the contacts to check for any updates. The information on the Council and District web site links is now as up to date as I can make it for the events I have entered. To make this as accurate as possible, I would like to appeal for further updates, especially on those events marked "location TBA" and for corrections if any on the events posted. I hope to have the remaining events (Cub camps, etc.) posted by August 1st and hope this will be useful to you in planning and carrying out your Scouting year. Please don't be shy in sending updates either directly to me or through your unit, District or Council staff and representatives. Message-ID: <108972.75280.qm@web83726.mail.sp1.yahoo.com> SNFS stands for one of the most important nights for Your Unit. Cub Pack & Boy Scout Troop School Night for Scouting!! Are you in need of more Adult Leaders? Do you need to replace lost Scouts? Do you have confused new Scouts & Parents each year? Do you have names of Scouts that registered you never see? If you answered yes to one or all of the above we have what you need to take care of all of them. Join Us for School Night for scouting training Thursday August 14th 7:00 P.m. at Waters Elementary 3006 78th Due to restrictions on passing out fliers in all of our school districts - Basically we were told we could not in any school - it is extremely important for all leaders of all units to mark down this very important date. Each unit will be taking responsibility for each school they will be recruiting from. There will be help but your unit will be taking the lead. If you normally recruit from the schools there needs to be at least 3 Leaders from you unit to coordinate each School. There will be help and support from the District for you but it is time for the units to take ownership of this extremely important night. We will have more details on the 14th. Please be sure to attend. Let's make this the BEST SNFS ever!!! Topics Include: How to run a successful school night campaign How to recruit new unit volunteers How to grow your pack How A Good Recruitment is important to your Pack & Troop YIS Robert Jeffcoat District Commissioner -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Copies of the postcards that went out to all units on these topics are attached for your convenience. Note that the planning materials that went out in May showed a separate Roundtable on Aug. 14 at a different location from the SNFS training and discussion event. Given the importance of this event to both Cub and Boy Scout units, the decision has been made to concentrate on the SNFS training, and this will be the Roundtable for all units for this month. A least 3 people from each unit hoping to recruit at a school (or assist with such recruiting) need to attend this important training! Reasons for making this decision will be explained at the session. The OA Chapter meeting for this month will also be moved to the same location (Waters Elementary) and start at a special time (6:30 pm) so that business can be completed and so that the OA can also be involved in the School Night for Scouting training. The Scoutmaster's Roundtable Conference Aug 7 is a repeat of a successful effort at planning the Boy Scout themes and speakers for the rest of the year. This proved to be a great way to get topics and presentations that are of interest to our participants and to create a program in which everyone can participate. Scoutmasters, Assistant SM's, Committee Chairs and Senior Patrol Leaders are strongly urged to attend this event The web calendar has been updated to show these changes. As Robert says, thanks for all that you do and hope to see you at one (preferably both!!) of these events. Alan -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
