Ringouts are important because: It helps to ensure that every youth is registered, and that the unit and National rosters are as accurate as possible. It helps to ensure that the youth attending are eligible for advancement. Only registered Scouts may advance It helps to assure that the youth attending are covered by the Council insurance program. Only registered Scouts (and Scouters) are covered by the Scout Insurance. To make this as simple as possible, unit leaders should e-mail a current copy of the unit's working roster (the one used to record attendance at meetings, not just the list used at recharter time) to Travis Rubelee, trubelee (at) bsamail (dot) org or to Austin Grappe, agrappe (at) bsamail (dot) org or fax a copy to them at (806) 747-4942 by the Friday preceding the phone call date, or drop off a copy at the Lott Service Center, or a copy to the District Roundtable on the month of the Ring-Out. Your roster will be checked against the national roster for your unit. If a Scout is found who is not registered on the national roster, you will be informed and asked to get an application in for each such Scout as soon as possible. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... They finished 41 hours of instructor course work this past weekend. The next instructor class will be Saturday, June 7th at the Scout Office plus the weekend of June 13-15 at Camp Post. Cost is $300. This involves 4 separate NRA course: Basic Instructor Training, Certified Rifle Instructor, Certified Shotgun Instructor, and Range Safety Officer. I will have registration forms at the roundtable meeting on April 10th. To use the shooting equipment and/or ranges with your scouts, you must have the Basic Instructor Training + Certified Instructor (rifle/shotgun/muzzle loading rifle/pistol/etc.) for what you will be shooting + Range Safety Officer. BSA has just ammended policy to now require a Certified Instructor AND a Range Safety Officer be present when you shoot on a troop outing. The best way to use our facilities and equipment is to get at least 2 adults from your unit through this training. The course cost of $300 covers all of your materials, food, ammo, a personalized instructor uniform vest, and certification fees (these "hidden" fees were not included in the last class, that's why it appeared to be cheaper at $250.) Again, you will have to renew your credentials annually, but that will only be about $20 annually and NO RENEWAL CLASSES!!!!!!!!! Pick up you registration form at the April 10th Roundtable or at the Scout Office after April 10th!!!!!! Or you can e-mail me with your interest, and I will try to e-mail the registration form to you. (this doesn't always work correctly.) Also, remember that this is not a BSA training. You will be a full fledged NRA Certified Instructor and Range Safety Officer. This means you can teach the appropriate NRA Basic courses anytime, anywhere. You have the option to team-teach with other instructors, as well. This is a great way to meet others and share your enthusiasm for shooting sports. Plus...........IT'S FUN!!!!! Below are two community service opportunities.that scouts can participate, have fun, and help out their community. Remember these hours would count as Good Turn for America service hours. Just report them on the Good Turn for America website and each scout who participates can earn a patch! Relay for Life The Lubbock American Cancer Society is in need of volunteers for the annual Relay for Life on Friday and Saturday, May 2 & 3. Volunteers are needed to assist with candle lighting, clean-up, and other activities throughout the night. Relay lasts from 6:30 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. Scouts can volunteer for an hour or two, or stay all night. Please contact Frank Goode (a local scouter) at 795-9970 for more information. Providers Pantry Each month The Roc's Providers' Pantry gives out food boxes at a minimual price to those in need within our community. They are asking for a few scouts to help them each month. The scouts would help distribute the food and help people load their food boxes into their vehicles. This would only be one Saturday a month for a couple hours. If you have a few scouts that would be interested, please call Don Kubica at 543-5003.
